Description
Built in 1870 as a circuit bungalow for British Government Agents, the Old Polonnaruwa Rest House was once the Queen of England's holiday destination. Reproductions of old photographs in the Royal suite, commemorate the visit of Her Majesty Elizabeth II in 1954 on her Commonwealth Tour to what was then Ceylon. Comfort enjoyed by royalty at the Polonnaruwa Rest House has grown seamlessly over time into an exclusive boutique resort, now stylishly redefined to 21st century luxury. The resort sits in the heart center of a UNESCO World Heritage site amidst the ruins of kingdoms past. No wonder the royal wish of Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to Serendipity was to stay here where Kings’ audience halls, council chambers and bathing ponds are within eyesight. The UNESCO Museum is a mere 2 minutes walk from the resort.
